LOS ANGELES: Has Office Gone to the Dogs?
Downtown LA would love to establish a creative office market, but will pet-loving tenants be allowed to bring their furry friends to work? At our recent Los Angeles State of the Market event, Allen Matkins partner Tony Natsis, who moderated, asked our owner and and developer panel if dogs—a common sight in other tech and creative strongholds—or lizards (not so common) will be allowed inside Downtown LA office buildings.
Turns out Fido is in for a mixed welcome. Watt Cos president Nadine Watt says the 30-year-old Watt Plaza recently added a dog run (or dog walk if your dog is lazy). But OUE CEO Richard Stockton says don't look for tenants' four-legged friends in US Bank Tower (the Singaporean company's first acquisition in the US) anytime soon—there's a segment of office tenants who don't want dogs in the workplace.
