Dunkin' Donuts Bolsters West Coast Rollout
Dunkin' Donuts, a perennial coffee powerhouse in its native northeast, is ramping up its competition with Starbucks thanks to a continued California expansion. Restaurant News reported today that the Massachusetts-based chain inked agreements to open 63 new locations (spread over five franchises) in the Golden State, which will ultimately bring it to a total 250 locations once the rollout speeds up next year. The company's goal is to have 1,000 California stores. As Flowingdata illustrated earlier this year, DD has a small fraction of Starbucks' West Coast presence despite having roughly 7,700 US locations to the Seattle behemoth's 11,500 at the end of last year.
