Walmart Employees Plan Black Friday Strike

Employees at 1,600 Walmart locations are planning the biggest strike in company history on Black Friday. Rather than cater to stampeding customers on the critical start of the holiday buying season, the workers will picket locations across the country as they fight for a $15 per hour wage and against what they view as the retailer's campaign to silence those critical of the company. Walmart claims the average hourly full-time wage across the nation's largest private employer is $12.92 an hour.

"Every time one of us speaks out for change, we take the risk that Walmart will fire us," Barbara Gertz, an employee at a Denver Walmart, told UPI. "That's not right and that's not legal. That's why we're going on strike." Yesterday, police arrested 23 people protesting against the same issues outside of a Walmart in LA.
