Barnes & Noble Not Scared Of Amazon's Brick-And-Mortar Push
Barnes & Noble chief digital officer Fred Argir isn’t batting an eye at Amazon’s new brick-and-mortar store—potentially the second of hundreds to come. “They’re going to do whatever they want to do,” Argir says.
Not only is Barnes & Nobles not nervous over the encroachment on their territory, the company’s CEO Ron Boire says they’ll open a new prototype store that has some sort of digital component.
Argir acknowledged that Nook, the company’s tanking e-reader, needs to be scaled back to put more effort into profitable aspects of the business, Quartz reports.
Argir might have some cause for concern—the company’s closed 80 of its 720 stores since 2010, and plans to close eight more in 2016. [Quartz]
