Burger King: Forget Fast-Casual, Let’s Sell Hot Dogs
With healthier options like Chipotle driving the restaurant game, Burger King is taking steps in the other direction, putting hot dogs on the menu for 2016.
President of Burger King North America Alex Macedo says where brands are trying to become more fast-casual, "we’re taking an opposite view.”
The company tried going healthy in 2013 with its lower-calorie “Satisfries,” but abandoned the project after poor sales numbers, the Wall Street Journal reports.
Instead, the fast-food giant has launched more indulgent options, like chicken fries and an extra-long jalapeño cheeseburger. The plan seems to be working—the chain’s Q3 ’15 numbers rose 6.2%. [WSJ]
