Lidl To Begin U.S. Invasion This Summer
Discount German grocer Lidl is set to open its first 20 U.S. stores this summer.
South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia will host the first stores. Within a year the firm plans to add another 80 across U.S. markets, RetailDive reports. The stores will measure 30k SF and offer a combination of convenience, price and quality, according to Lidl U.S. president Brendan Proctor.
The German chain has been recruiting employees to run its U.S. stores for over a month, and among other qualifications, the firm requires store manager applicants to have a passport to accommodate a six-month training period, which includes time spent in Germany.
