Kroger Co. Buys NYC Specialty Chain Murray’s Cheese
Kroger Co. has tapped Greenwich Village’s favorite cheese shop, opening the door for the supermarket giant to attract a more specialized customer base.
Kroger and Murray’s Cheese have been in partnership for almost a decade, and last month Kroger bought the 254 Bleecker St. retail condo that houses Murray’s flagship store for $20.6M, the Wall Street Journal reports. The recent deal gives Kroger control of the flagship business, a Greenwich village restaurant, the company’s location in Grand Central Terminal and its e-commerce business in Long Island City.
While the deal’s terms were not disclosed, Kroger said it does not plan on making any changes to Murray’s flagship store but hopes to lower prices by making larger purchases from suppliers.
