Mall Operators Hope That Technology Will Give Them The Edge With Consumers
Shopping malls are adopting tech to bring in more shoppers.
Retailers have been in the tech space for a while, adding robots, touch-screen mirrors and virtual reality goggles to attract shoppers to their stores in the past few years—but now malls are adding mapping functions to help consumers find parking, navigate corridors and check out sales, the Wall Street Journal reports.
Landlords hope bringing in more shoppers will give them the edge in lease negotiations with tenants.
“What differentiates GGP is the ability to make this kind of investment so that we have the best mousetrap in the market,” General Growth Properties CEO Sandeep Mathrani says. [WSJ]
