Legal Marijuana Was On Fire In 2015
Legal marijuana was smoking hot in 2015, with total sales topping $5.4B, according to a report by a marijuana analysis and investment firms (yes, those exist).
Wall Street funds are taking notice as cannabis goes corporate, considering the ethics of “green” investments. The report expects the legal pot industry to keep on blooming, with shops selling $21.8B in 2020, the New York Times reports.
“There is still a certain stigma around it,” says Brandy Keen, co-founder of indoor cultivation firm Surna. “It grew out of closets and basements and hidden facilities in cinder-block buildings.”
Legality continues to expand as well, with seven states set to vote on recreational use this year—on top of the four already allowing it. [NYT]
