Industry Players Eye Investment Opportunities Following Retail Closures
As retail bankruptcies this year exceed highs experienced during the Great Recession, several high-profile retailers have announced massive store closures. But it is not all doom and gloom for the sector — research shows there are industry players that view the shutterings as an investment opportunity.
Marcus & Millichap’s 2017 U.S. Retail Investment Focus said vacancies give landlords the opportunity to redevelop spaces, choose improved tenants and ultimately boost yields, GlobeSt reports. The report also said consumer spending will boost the sector during the rest of 2017 as strong employment continues to increase consumers' buying power.
Concerning e-commerce, Marcus & Millichap said omnichannel is the key. Whether Amazon or Walmart, it is essential to develop as many omnichannel avenues to connect with shoppers as possible.
