Online Shopping Is Surging This Holiday Season, Mobile Is A Key Driver
E-commerce is the clear winner this holiday season, and mobile phones are playing a larger role than ever before.
Looking at sales from the day before Thanksgiving to Black Friday, online orders accounted for 25% of all consumer spending, up from 18% last year, according to First Data Corp, the Wall Street Journal reports. E-commerce continued its breakneck pace into Cyber Monday, posting sales 12% higher than those seen last year and reaching $3.45B.
Total retail spending during the period is up 9% from last year with the biggest increase coming from mobile phones, as seen during Black Friday—when mobile orders accounted for 36% of online sales. [WSJ]
