Major Executive Shake-Up At Staples
Staples is overhauling its top management, as its planned merger with rival Office Depot continues to face regulatory opposition.
Demos Parneros, current Chief of North American Stores, will step down on March 31. Current president of North America's commercial operations Shira Goodman has been named president for North American Operations.
To round up the shake-up, John Wilson, president of Staples Europe, will be the president of International Operations. CEO Ron Sargent says the changes will help Staples compete, with or without Office Depot.
So far, Staples' efforts to merge with Office Depot have been thwarted by the Federal Trade Commission, which filed a lawsuit last month saying the deal would create a "price-gouging duopoly." [RD]
