Inside A Closing Walmart: What A Retail Crisis Looks Like (PHOTOS)
In January, Walmart closed 269 of its stores worldwide, including 154 locations in the US, the latest big round of store closures by a major retailer.
In the week before the Walmart stores shut down, retail photographer Nicholas Eckhart visited two locations in Hartland, MI, and Bedford, OH. His photos capture the final hectic days of business at the two stores.
A bright yellow banner greets shoppers, announcing the store closing.
Customers shopping en masse for clearance goods have left the aisles in complete disarray.
Other aisles have turned eerily empty.
All those greeting cards are gone.
But the wine is still there. (It wasn't on clearance.)
In the final days, the discounts were as high as 75%.
