These 10 Malls Get the Most Revenue Out of Their SF
People may be flocking to urban areas, but that doesn't mean the suburban mall is dead. Here are 10 shopping centers with the highest sales per SF, according to data from Green Street Advisors.
1. Bal Harbour Shops
Sales per SF: $3k
Location: Bal Harbour, FL
Owner: Whitman Family Development
This open-air center screams luxury with koi ponds and palm trees surrounding high-end retailers. Because the shopping center is in a wealthy Miami suburb, there's been a waiting list for retailers wanting to open up shop. Unfortunately for them, there's been 100% occupancy for the last several decades.
2. The Grove
Sales per SF: $2,100
Location: Los Angeles
Owner: Caruso Affiliated
This 575k SF retail and entertainment complex is on land that was previously occupied by an orchard and nursery. Ground broke for the Art Deco-style mall in 1999.
3. The Mall at Rockingham Park
Sales per SF: $2,100
Location: Salem, NH
Owner: Simon Property Group
Last April, New Hampshire's largest mall revealed renovation plans that included new glass railings, energy-efficient light upgrades and new restrooms.
4. Aventura Mall
Sales per SF: $1,640
Location: Aventura, FL
Owner: Turnberry Associates
This luxury mall is the third-largest shopping center in the US, featuring 300 stores, a movie theater, three spas and Equinox Fitness Club. But that may not be enough for Turnberry Associates, which announced expansion plans for a three-story, 241k SF retail wing in 2014.
5. The Forum Shops at Caesars
Sales per SF: $1,610
Location: Las Vegas
Owner: Simon Property Group
This 636k SF shopping mall was built as an expansion of the main hotel and casino in 1992. It's now home to over 270 retailers.
6. Woodbury Commons Premium Outlets
Sales per SF: $1,550
Location: Central Valley, NY
Owner: Simon Property Group
The highest-ranking outlet is just two hours outside of NYC, making it a hot spot for tourists visiting the city and looking to spend some greenbacks. The massive 800k SF shopping complex opened in 1985 and went through expansions in 1993 and 1998.
7. Pheasant Lane Mall
Sales per SF: $1,540
Location: Nashua, NH
Owner: Simon Property Group
This 1M SF mall has a strange pentagon shape to keep it within New Hampshire's tax-free borders. That being said, lots of Massachusetts residents cross over to enjoy the benefits. The mall underwent a $10M renovation in 2012.
8. Ala Moana Shopping Center
Sales per SF: $1,400
Location: Honolulu
Owner: General Growth Properties
What was already the world's largest open-air shopping center at 2.4M SF became even larger with its Ewa Wing expansion that just opened to the public this November.
9. Orlando Premium Outlets
Sales per SF: $1,380
Location: Orlando
Owner: Simon Property Group
Originally named "Belz Factory Outlet World" (we support the name change), this shopping center was totally remodeled in 2007 to become completely outdoors. In 2010, Simon Property Group acquired it for $2.3B.

Located just 15 miles from Walt Disney World, this mall sees over 59 million shoppers each year. At the time of its opening in 2002, it was the main retail attraction in the area.
