Winn-Dixie Grocery Parent Company Bi-Lo Prepares For Bankruptcy Filing
Bi-Lo LLC, the parent company of Winn-Dixie and other supermarkets, may be filing for bankruptcy as early as next month.
Almost 200 stores could be affected, Bloomberg reports. The company, which also filed for bankruptcy in 2005 and 2009, could settle its debts out of court.
Bi-Lo has $1B in debt after its buyout by Lone Star Funds in 2005.
Southeastern Grocers, Bi-Lo’s parent company, did not respond to a Bisnow request for comment.
Grocery stores all over the country are battling it out for survival. Studies show premier organic grocery stores are popular among investors, homeowners and consumers. Independently owned grocers are fighting to stay afloat as well.
