Apple Stands To Gain $3B In Revenue From PokéCoins
Pokémon Go is having an impact on real estate, and PokéCoins are having an impact on Apple’s wallet. The world’s most valuable company stands to make $3B in revenue from the Pokémon craze, and that’s in real dollars.
“We believe Apple keeps 30% of Pokémon Go’s revenue spent on iOS devices, suggesting an upside to earnings,” Needham & Co analyst Laura Martin says. And while the game can be downloaded for free, you have to pay for PokéCoins—a pack of 100 will run you 99 cents, but some people like to buy in bulk and will pay $99.99 for 14,500 coins, The Guardian reports.
Seeing as there are at least 21 million active users in the US alone, and the game is currently in 34 other countries, a 30% cut of those PokéCoins is serious money. Apple’s stock has already jumped up 5% in market value since the launch of the game, and Nintendo’s has almost doubled. [Guardian]
