Tenants Hire Private Investigators To Fight Back Against Airbnb
While Airbnb’s recent compromise with regulators is hopeful, the firm’s feud with tenants is only getting worse as private investigators are thrown into the mix.
In San Francisco especially, tenant lawyers are increasingly relying on private investigators to help determine if landlords are illegally kicking out tenants so they can put their property on home-sharing websites, Bloomberg reports. Until now, such evictions have flown below the radar.
But private investigators are pretty good at finding out whether an apartment is being used for a short-term rental, doing everything from posing as a guest to staking out a property, and experts say before long Airbnb may need to crack down further on illegal listings. [Bloomberg]
