Julia Child Foundation Files Claim Against Airbnb
More trouble for the home-sharing behemoth—the charitable foundation representing iconic US chef Julia Child’s legacy is suing Airbnb, saying the firm used her name without permission for commercial purposes.
Specifically, the foundation says Airbnb used her name to promote a stay in France at one of her former vacation homes, Business Insider reports. The complaint claims Airbnb promoted a contest, boasting how entrants could live in “Julia Child’s former homer,” while “channeling the culinary genius of Julia Child.” Allegedly, Airbnb also said guests could comb “over the knick knacks in her kitchen exactly as she left them.”
Her foundation says Airbnb did all this after asking permission to use her name, and permission was denied. Also, those mythical kitchen tools were removed in 1992. [BI]
