New York Red Bulls Training Complex Kicks Off Construction For 2026 World Cup

With the 2026 World Cup approaching, the New York Red Bulls are taking bold steps to elevate their training facility to world-class standards.

The team is ensuring it has everything needed for its players —and international stars — to stay at the top of their game.

March Construction, a New Jersey-based commercial construction company, is working alongside Gensler Architects to construct the new campus.

"We need to get the fields ready quickly so the grass has a year to grow while we build the rest of the complex," said Lou March, owner of March Construction. "We planned, scheduled and budgeted the construction with the World Cup in mind, ensuring the facility would be ready for teams needing to prepare before the event."

Red Bulls Training Complex Commences

In May, construction started on the 80-acre Red Bulls training complex in Morris Township, New Jersey.

This facility will also serve Red Bulls II, the New York Red Bulls Academy and Youth Training programs. The complex features eight soccer fields and five buildings, including a gym, locker rooms and a physiotherapy space.

March said that to achieve this goal the team developed a detailed plan outlining the scope of work and project timeline well before breaking ground.

"We build a project from the bottom up during preconstruction, which helps us solve problems before they happen," March said. "It gives us the ability to plan the project out correctly, reducing the need for change orders, saving money and helping to avoid delays."

How Preconstruction Planning Pays Off

For almost four decades, March Construction has expertly managed construction projects, ensuring quality and efficiency from start to finish, March said. Its comprehensive preconstruction services include securing building permits, evaluating material availability and performing value engineering.

This process carefully assesses project components to deliver high value while cutting costs, ensuring optimal results for every project. March Construction's value engineering efforts slashed the training complex's initial budget by 29%.

The Red Bulls training complex project is on track for completion in fall 2025.

March Construction also demonstrated its expertise in preconstruction on The Wyldes, a 399-unit multifamily property in Harrison, New Jersey.

By collaborating closely with developer Advance Realty and MHS Architecture during preconstruction and employing value-engineering techniques, the company achieved 16% cost savings on the project.

“We worked closely together from foundation to finishes, and it turned out to be a tremendous project,” Lou said. “We saved a good amount of money and hit our schedule. There was no lowering of standards or value taken away from the project. This is our nicest multi-residential build to date.”

Team Effort Drives Cost Savings Amid Rising Interest Rates

With rising interest rates, clients are reevaluating their financial projections to manage the increasing cost of interest. This situation has highlighted the critical importance of value engineering, allowing projects to stay within budget despite financial pressures, said March.

"Knowing the real-time cost of construction today is crucial," March said. "Prices have changed significantly due to inflation, and they are not what they were historically."

March said that for nearly 40 years, the company has built strong relationships with trusted subcontractors, often putting projects out to bid to ensure the best quality and value. These longstanding relationships and collaborations with all stakeholders during preconstruction lead to the best project outcomes.

"We’ve been in this market for a long time and we’re involved in projects across multiple asset classes, so we have an understanding of complex issues that can arise during the course of a project and the solutions to keep the projects on track," Lou March said. "We can't stress enough the importance of having an experienced general contractor for preconstruction."
