Bedminster May Become Trump Summer Getaway
President Donald Trump is expected to shun Mar-a-Lago in West Palm Beach, Florida, for the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster this summer, leaving the New Jersey town bracing for his arrival, NPR reports.
Bedminster Mayor Steve Parker has reached out to the federal government for help, sending a letter to his congressmen in December estimating police overtime for Trump's anticipated visits will cost $300K.
Parker also runs the local Somerset Airport and expects the presidential visits to negatively impact his business, because planes must be grounded in the no-fly zone around the president.
Other local merchants have expressed excitement that this will increase retail sales, while some residents voiced concerns over taxes being raised to cover the costs of Trump's stays.
