7 BRYANT PARK MOVES FORWARD

When Hines regional head Tommy Craig told an AREW lunch last week that construction on 7 Bryant Park was imminent, he meant weeks, not months. Despite Sandy, the developer last week finalized negotiations with Turner Construction, which will be the GC for the 28-story, 474k SF Pei Cobb-designed office tower overlooking Bryant Park. It caps an eventful year for the project, which included a major all-equity investment from J.P. Morgan Asset Management in June and a competitive bidding process for the GC spot. Above, he's joined by Perkins+Will's Debra Cole, Rhodes Associates' Jane Lyons, and Marketing for Designers' Iva Kravitz.

7 Bryant Park should be under way by the end of the year, he tells us, joining the construction that has already started at 56 Leonard Street, where Hines is co-development manager with Alexico. 317 Madison—where SL Green has tapped Hines for development management—is a project that’s still in the pipeline, but Tommy says it's expected to be organized around the proposed Midtown East zoning initiative. Hines is also assembling the financing necessary on its MoMA project. Meanwhile, following two major surgeries this year, Tommy is looking forward to skiing again next year with his wife and three kids (one boy and two girls, including Casey, who joined him at the AREW event). They all share an adventurous spirit: younger daughter Katie, who started at the University of Vermont this year, is a Division I diver, just like dad.
