A LA MODA; THE DEAL SHEET
June 29, 2010
First a library, then a court house, and now rental apartments? One of Queens' most unique twists on adaptive reuse opened on Thursday, the 346-unit MODA. The building, which once housed the Central Library Building of the Queens Borough Public Library and then the Queens Family Court, is located at 89th Ave. and Parsons Blvd. in Jamaica. |
Celebrating the grand opening on the building were teams from developer The Dermot Co., Community Board 12, architect FXFOWLE, Bovis Lend Lease, Bank of America, Queens Borough prez Helen Marshall, Councilmember James Gennaro, and NYC Economic Development Corp.'s Kyle Kimball. The building underwent a reported $194M renovation to bring affordable and market-rate housing to the neighborhood. MODA, which retained the historical façade of the courthouse, also includes 20k SF of community space, 40k SF of retail, underground public parking, a health club, and is LEED certified. |
