ART IS ALIVE
September 12, 2012
This afternoon, we ducked over to Brookfield Office's and Swig's Grace Building north of Bryant Park for the unveiling of its renovated lobby. We snapped Brookfield US CEO Mitch Rudin and head of design and construction Sabrina Kanner in front of one of Caio Fonseca's pair of new paintings there. Brookfield took ownership of the building when it acquired Trizec in '06 and engaged Moed de Armas & Shannon architects in 2010 to rehab the lobby. Sabrina says new lobbies (renovations and new construction) now embody a sense of volume, light, and clarity of lines and planes. Moed de Armas & Shannon's Dan Shannon tells us there's a trend for scale in lobbies citywide. Why isn't clear, but he's working on similar projects at Vornado's 330 W Madison and 1290 Ave of the Americas. As for Mitch, the only news he could give us not followed by "then I'd have to kill you" is that his son just got married in August. |
