Ace In The Hole
Three years ago, the Ace Hotel opened in NoMad with spectacular fanfare and has since turned the hip hotel industry on its head, creating an all new "lifestyle" model: industrial vibe, retro dcor, open doors to the community, and the centrality of music and the F&B program. Last week in Seattle, we excitedly went to see its roots: Alex Calderwood's original hotel that started it all (above). What?!! It's only 28 rooms, in an out-of-the-way section of downtown, a bit of a hole-in-the-wall. Hotels.com rates it only a two-star, although with its famous name this week it was charging (in Seattle, mind you, not New York) $175.
