BLAST FROM THE PAST
One Chase Manhattan Plaza ad
Saturday, Bisnow's Amanda Marsh hopped a ride on the MTA's vintage R1/R9 subway train, which has been running each weekendin December on the Sixth Avenue line. (The cars—some of which were built in the 1930s—ran on the IND and BMT until the ‘70s. Bonus points if you remember those acronyms). In one car, she found this ad for the “new” One Chase Manhattan Plaza circa 1961. Here's what it says: “Anyone sensitive to noise will envy the occupants of Chase Manhattan's new 813-foot tower where 1,500,000 square feet of ceiling sound-proofing is installed to quiet a gross floor area of 2,250,000 square feet. The new headquarters in the heart of New York's financial district will house more than 7,000 Chase Manhattan employees, all pledged to greater usefulness in New York, the nation and the world."
