NYC comptroller Bill Thompson addressed BOMA/NY’s annual tradeshow at the Grand Hyatt
Yesterday, NYC comptroller and mayoral candidate Bill Thompson addressed BOMA/NY’s annual tradeshow at the Grand Hyatt. He says a large part of NYC’s economy flows from big buildings, and the city needs to make things easier for building owners and managers. Also, we need to change regulations, fees, and fines, which delay productivity; his promise if elected: clear standards, incentivize good behavior, penalize bad, and work to revitalize a barbell economy fueled by a “myopic focus on Wall Street,” while diversifying NYC’s economy.

BOMA/NY announced its newly elected officers for ’10. Congrats Related Management’s James Kleeman (secretary), Brookfield Properties’ Edward Fallon (president), Cushman & Wakefield’s Louis Mantia (VP) and Boston Properties’ Thomas Hill (treasurer). In some stunning foreshadowing, Barack Obama was given the BOMA Peace Prize, though somehow it all seems insignificant now.

One hundred fifty members attended sessions on the Department of Homeland Security’s SAFETY Act, elevator/escalator inspections, and Local Law 11. Outgoing prez Angelo Grima (Grubb & Ellis Management Services), right, with newly elected board member Mark Landstrom (Cogswell Realty), tells us the event started later this year to accommodate the work-hour needs of members; it also included a 35-vendor trade show. It’s the last informative session of the year for the association, which calls for celebration: its annual Dinner Dance is November 6th at the Grand Hyatt, followed by its annual holiday lunch December 3rd.
