BREAK THE LAW
January 19, 2011
Fordham University broke ground on its new School of Law and residence hall. The $250M, 22-story building (fronting 62nd St between Columbus and Amsterdam Aves) is the centerpiece of the school's $1.6B development plan. |
The 468k SF building is designed by Pei Cobb Freed & Partnersand aiming for LEED Silver cert. It's slated to be finished in ’14 and more than double the law school’s current program, event, and office space. The school will be housed in the lower nine stories, with a residential tower for 430 undergrads rising above. Features include a two-story atrium, a moot and trial court facility, and a 562,000-volume law library. (You could cram those onto a Kindle, but 1-volume library isn't as intimidating.) Construction crews are already working, beginning excavation by the end of the month, and Fordham will hold a ceremonial groundbreaking May 2. The entire development plan won't be done until 2033, but it'll translate into nearly 5,000 construction, 520 permanent, and 200 contract jobs. |
