Donald Kaplan Dies at 81
Donald Kaplan
We'd like to express our sincere condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of real estate veteran Donald Kaplan, who died Nov. 11 at age 81, following a brief illness. Donald, who formerly served as general manager of the Empire State Building and International Toy Center, began his career in real estate in the early ‘60s under the tutelage of Peter Malkin, Lawrence Wien, and Harry Hemsley, and went on to hold various exec positions overseeing their trophy Manhattan assets. In addition to the two buildings, he marketed and re-leased 1185 Avenue of Americas when he was with W&M Properties (now Malkin Properties), and retired in '02. Donald is survived by his sons Tom and John, his brother Edgar, and grandsons Avery and Benjamin. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family is welcoming donations to the Friedman Brain Institute; a memorial is planned.
