Durst Fetner Residential's West 57
Even buildings are going hybrid. Durst Fetner Residential unveiled the look of West 57, its 600-unit 80/20 residential building on W 57th St between 11th and 12th Aves, which should break ground in a year. Danish architectural firm BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group designed theLEED Gold-aspiring building, which will be a mix between theEuropean perimeter block and a traditional Manhattan high-rise. So just what does that mean? A unique shape that combines the compactness and efficiency of a courtyard building with the airiness and expansive views of a skyscraper. Three corners of the block will remain low, and the northeast corner will rise up to a 467’ peak, allowing open views of the Hudson River and preserving the views from Durst Fetner’s adjacent Helena Tower. (It'll look like a warped pyramid from the West Side Hwy and a slender spire from W 58th St.)
