Uniting Against Lung Cancer was again met with blue skies at Southampton's Cooper Beach this Memorial Day weekend for its annual Kites for a Cure family benefit to raise money for innovative lung cancer research. Here, a lung cancer survivor flies a âPlease Hurryâ kite. The event, primarily sponsored by Rechler Equity Partners, raised $200k—more than double the charity's usual revenue. (Rechler Equity co-founder Roger Rechler died of lung cancer in '08, and a lung cancer research grant was established in his memory.) Uniting Against Lung Cancer was founded in '01 in memory of Joan Scarangello, sister of CBRE's Mary Ann Tighe, Thorton Tomasetti's Tom Scarangello, and sister-in-law of Great Ink Communications' Roxanne Donovan. In seven years, it has awarded more than $10M in research grants. |
