Green Giant
November 18, 2010
Tuesday Vornado unveiled a 6.2-megawatt cogeneration plant at the 2.5M SF One Penn Plaza, one of the largest office buildings in NYC. Above, NYSERDA program manager Peter Savio, Vornado office president David Greenbaum, Vornado chairman Steven Roth, deputy mayor Stephen Goldsmith, and DEP commissioner Cas Holloway are at the co-gen facility, which supplies 50% of electricity usage for the building, 30% of steam usage from the heat by-product, and reduces One Penn Plaza's greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint by 40%. The commissioning of the co-gen facility is part of VNO's sustainable upgrades across its 22M SF NYC portfolio. Earlier this year, the building achieved LEED cert, and by year's end, the owner will have 10M S F of LEED-EB Class A office space in the city. |
