HAPPY BIRTHDAY, NYCREW!
November 30, 2011
Whoever thought adding 10 years could look so good? Last night, we stopped at the Columbus Townhouse for NYCREW’s 10th Anniversary Gala. (Networking’s obviously the secret to staying young in this stressful business.) The women who started it all: JRT Realty Group’s Nancy Wood, Dottie Cunningham, and CBRE’sMarlyn Pauley. Dottie, who’s been involved with CREW Network since the 1970s (starting with DC; she was then founding president ofCREW Baltimore and CREW national prez in ’98) says there was no CREW presence in NY when it launched in 2001, and Marlyn was the first chapter president. Dottie has since retired; the former CRE Finance Council CEO has taken up traveling, going on a 101-day trip around the world this year. Her favorite spots: Myanmar andBudapest. Now she’s studying for the NY tour guide licensing exam and helping others plan their excursions. |
Prudential Douglas Elliman’s Faith Hope Consolo, Trepp’s Shari Linnick, and Marcus & Millichap’s Karen Dome. Faith, Karen (chapter prez), Shari, and the rest of the current NYCREW officers and directors are staying on for another term in which they’ll focus onexpanding programming, membership, and connections with CREW Network’s 8,000 members across the country, as well as forming three strategic alliances with leading industry organizations. Shari will then take the helm in 2013. NYCREW also celebrated its annual Vanguard awards last night, and the recipients were Citibank's Laura Walker (Pioneer Spirit Award), Faith (Avant-Garde Award), Wells Fargo's Christine Chipurnoi (Pinnacle Award), Karen (Leadership Award), and Crowell & Moring’s Barbara Champoux (Visionary Award). Congrats! |
Brixmor’s Nicole Wetsch-Horne, KBS Realty Advisors’ Sharon Kun, Laura Walker, Cole Schotz’s Wendy Berger, Studley’s Allyson Bowen, and Barbara Champoux. Barbara is one of the handful of 10-year members, including Fidelity National Title's Pauline Anderson Brown, Loews Hotels' Elif Bali, The Wall Street Journal's Deborah Falcone, Iridium Capital's Marilyn Kane, Sklar Realty Group's Lydia Sklar, and Capmark Finance's Pamela Dent. |
Members from sister CREW chapters ICREW NJ, CREW CT, andAREW were on hand for the celebration last night, including JLC Environmental Consultants’ Jennifer Carey (AREW prez) and Meehan & Goodin Engineers-Surveyors' Richard Meehan (CREW CT prez elect). Wait a sec... a man for CREW prez? Yep, Richard’s the first one—he jokes that it’s because he isn’t afraid to ask for directions. When the 12-year CREW vet was asked to be president elect, he called some “the elder statesmen” of CREW CT and NEWIRE to see if they were comfortable with a man leading a predominantly female association—and the answer was yes. Did you know he saved a fellow CREW member from choking at the CREW Network Convention in DC this September? He never did theHeimlich Maneuver beforehand, but “saw it on a sitcom.” |
Perkins+Will’s Debra Cole and The Realex Capital Corp’s Valerie Fontaine with Titles of New York’s Esen Edip and Marnee McCarthy. Esen had the night to relax from a “huge closing boom” on residential properties; she says developers are also looking toward 2013 to bring out more high-end, spacious developments, especially in Midtown. Debra says Perkins+Will has seen a big influx of new clients, particularly business overseas. “That diversification helped us during the rough times,” she tells us. |
