Huzzah Robert Abrams!
October 16, 2009
Not many people get to see their name on a building—unless they build one themselves. However, Stroock & Stroock & Lavan partner Robert Abrams recently had the honor of having the Justice Building on the Mall in Albany renamed the Robert Abrams Building for Law and Justice, in recognition of his public service. We visited him in his Maiden Lane office to congratulate him (just like Gov. Paterson in this dedication photo). |
Bob’s been with Stroock for 15 years, after serving almost three decades in public life—three terms in the State Assembly, three as Bronx Borough President, and four as NYS Attorney General. He's tackled issues like environmental and consumer protection, civil rights, anti-trust enforcement and white collar crime. Now he reps clients who are the subject of investigations by the state AGs,responding to subpoenas and negotiating investigation resolutions. Last year, Gov. Paterson also appointed Bob to the U.N. Development Corporation, assisting the U.N. with real estate and development needs. |
Along the way, he’s picked up some real estate market intelligence from his broker wife, Diane, of Brown Harris Stevens. Although he’s optimistic about the long-term future for current investments, it won't happen overnight. He also recently imparted his wisdom about the public sector and defending people’s rights at the 13th Attorney Gen Robert Abrams Public Service Lecture at NYU Law School, where he and NY AG Andrew Cuomo spoke to an overflow audience. |
