Joan's Legacy Fundraiser!
We stopped by Gotham Hall for the recent Joan's Legacy: Uniting Against Lung Cancer's annual Strolling Supper, where we snapped CBRE Tri-State CEO Mary Ann Tighe and Great Ink Communications founder Roxanne Donovan bookending Curbcut Urban Partners CEO Aaron Malinsky (whose daughter, Curbcut VP Carolyn, co-chairs the event committee with Roxanne). Joan's Legacy was created in memory of Joan Scarangello McNeive--the sister of Mary Ann and Roxanne's husband, Thornton Tomasetti chairman Tom Scarangello--a nonsmoker who died of lung cancer in 2001. The annual gala raises critically needed funds for lung cancer research, and this year, more than 700 attendees donated nearly $1.4M.
Among the attendees were Brookfield's Jonathan Kramer, Callie Haines, and COO of US commercial operations Paul Schulman, whose firm was one of the many sponsors. The silent auction included items like choosing the name of a character in Stephen King's upcoming novel and being an official judge at Nathan's annual hot-dog eating contest. But the special moment of the night: event host and NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams live auctioning a VIP experience for 24 people at Beyonce's Barclays Center concert in December, which went for $20k. Since 2003, Uniting Against Lung Cancer has funded over $10M in research.
