MEET OUR SPONSOR: COLLIERS INTERNATIONAL
June 28, 2010
On Thursday, we were on hand to see best-selling author Malcolm Gladwell (Tipping Point, Blink, Outliers), in the middle, with Colliers US CEO Dylan Taylor and Global CEO Doug Frye at Lincoln Center, where he told 400 Colliers International execs and clients that organizations can learn lessons from rock band Fleetwood Mac. Speaking at a celebration of the launch of the new Colliers International, Malcolm told the band's story from its humble British beginnings and rise to its acclaimed Rumours album, and drew the lesson that Fleetwood Mac wasn't an overnight sensation—it took the band a decade to make it big. First lesson: The 10-year rule, i.e., no one (excluding chess wunderkind Bobby Fischer) has been a grand success without 10 years' incubation and apprenticeship. Second:adversity is good—you become hungry and work harder. Third: you have to risk yourself in pursuit of something bold and innovative. Finally, make a commitment to talent, the seeds of a great organization. |
At the event, we met with Tri-State CEO Mark Jaccom and EVP Joseph Caridi, who told us about exciting regional expansion opportunities. In the past month, it's opened a new office on Long Island—rebranding Lake Success-based Sutton and Edwards, launched a Tri-State life science practice group, and hired two leading industrial execs to service NJ. And 380 Madison Ave. is home to Colliers' newly launched national seniors housing practice group, led by new recruit and industry vet Mark Silver. It's also expanding its two NJ offices by 20 brokers and NYC by 25, bolstering its appraisal, tenant rep, capital markets, corporate services, retail, and project management lines. It's quickly growing out of its 380 Madison office and will need nearly 75k SF to support this expansion. Within two years, the firm expects to be on the ground for new space. |
