MULTIFAMILY MONDAY: Betting on New York
October 25, 2010
Amid sounds of rolling dice and slot machines at the Grand Hyatt Thursday, over 500 NYC residential brokers celebrated a year of deals while raising money for charity at REBNY’s 22nd Residential Deal of the Year Awards, aptly titled “Betting on New York." |
An elated MacRae Parker of Brown Harris Stevens took home The Henry Foster Award for lifetime achievement presented by ’09 winner Tresa Hall of The Corcoran Group. He received the award not only for his residential expertise, but for his often-anonymous charitable acts, such as contributions to an elderly widow in his building, apple trees to a struggling farm family, and his long-time support of the Frick and Winterthur Museums. The event raised money for REBNY’s Member In Need program in memory of Susan Dougherty, a longstanding member and wife of Halstead’s Michael Goldenberg, adding to the $1.8M the event has raised for various housing charities over the past 22 years. |
The winning deal makers: Brown Harris Stevens’ Roger Gillen(Rookie Salesperson of the Year); Halstead’s Lisa Snyder and Prudential Douglas Elliman’s Carol Landon (Sale of the Year - second place); MacRae; PDE’s Neoly Lika Williams (Sale of the Year - third place, with Corcoran’s Karin Posvar Picket); Pasquale Strippoli; Corcoran’s Jacqui Howard Sicignano (Sale of the Year - first place); and Halstead’s Senad Ahmetovic (Rental of the Year, with Halstead’s Pasquale Strippoli). This was Senad’s second year in a row winning the award—we hope he brought some of that luck to the blackjack tables and roulette wheels at the gala reception. |
Abrams Garfinkel Margolis Bergson’s Neil Garfinkel and Corey Gindi, Katz & Matz’s Bruce Katz, and Prudential Douglas Elliman’s Jeffrey Rothstein, Jacky Teplitzky, and Dottie Herman. It certainly looks like REBNY had the “Betting On New York” theme right for the evening. PDE CEO Dottie tells us that NYC is very resilient, and continues to fare especially well as compared with the rest of the county. “It’s a special place that competes internationally, and a city where people want to live,” she says. |
Now’s the best time to buy residential, recommends Argo Residential’s Karen Berman (second from left, with Prudential Douglas Elliman’s Corinne Pulitzer and Sotheby’s International Realty’s Pauline Evans and Dorothy Sexton). Interest rates are still low and prices have stabilized—don’t be afraid to jump in, she says. She’s currently marketing a one-bedroom home at 69 Fifth Ave., which was split from a duplex. The other half is selling close to the asking price of $899k. Pauline and Dorothy were also upbeat, saying they’ve seen an uptick in appointment requests, with several resulting in negotiable offers. They’re selling a property at 161 W. 61st St. for just under $4M, and had six appointments last week. |
Meet TV’s latest reality stars (minus the “Jersey Shore” escapades): Warburg Realty’s Deborah Lupard, Jane Bayard, Richard Steinberg, Fred Peters, Judi Lederer, and Christine Miller Martin. Agents from the firm, including president Fred, Richard, Deborah,Lisa Chajet, and Leslie Modell Rosenthal, have joined the cast of HGTV’s weekly series “Selling New York,” which gives viewers a rare glimpse into the high-stakes world of buying and selling luxury Manhattan properties. The show also features agents from CORE and Gumley Haft Kleier; the new episodes will air starting January. |
Stribling’s Rebecca Mason, Judy Durham, Cindy Kurtin,Christopher Wilson, and Lori Huler Glick. Rebecca just returned from three weeks in England’s Kent countryside, but don’t think she left real estate behind—she helped her parents get their house ready to go on the market. She arrived in the US to a new position at Stribling, where she’s now EVP and director of sales, managing the Chelsea and TriBeCa offices. |
