Retail Reconnaissance
June 5, 2009
Since Bisnow couldn’t fly out to Vegas this year for ICSC’s ReCon, we sent our dedicated spies, also known as The Retail Network, to file an official report. The team: The Fagen Group’s Stu Fagen, CB Richard Ellis’ Jayson Siano (fighting jet lag with Starbucks), and Kimco’s Josh Weinkranz. Rosenbaum Consulting’s Lee Rosenbaum also joined us for the update. Their take: retail’s not as bad as everyone says it is. People are still doing deals and talking, and rumors are worse than fact. The worst is behind us, and this was a necessary rightsizing of previous market oversaturation. |
TRN’s April networking event was only a preview of the Vegas crowds! Jayson says he was pleasantly surprised with the streamlined show’s effectiveness, which lacked the previous years’ “filler”; Josh adds this led to more higher-level meetings (and easier dinner reservations). The NY developer party seemed as strong as ever, with a great mix of people, they say, and many who were on the fence about attending ReCon showed up last-minute. Now that Sin City is behind them (they claim the majority of TRN attendees were on their best behavior), they can focus on Monday’s golf networking event (see below). |
