SWEET ENERGY SAVINGS
August 10, 2011
High energy prices? Mrs. Maxwell’s Bakery can fuggedaboutit.Yesterday, Brooklyn borough prez Marty Markowitz (right) stopped by Atlantic Avenue’s sugar haven to commend it for going green through Con Edison’s small biz energy efficiency program, saving $7,000 in energy costs annually (the equivalent of more than 4,600 cupcakes). Con Ed provided 71 free CFL lamps, replaced 68 fluorescent fixtures and lamps, and installed 14 LED lamps throughout the bakery (covering 70% of the cost, so it was fewer than five months’ payback for Mrs. Maxwell’s). With him are Con Edison Small Business Direct Install Program manager Esteban Vasquez, Con Edison Energy Efficiency and Demand Management director Rebecca Craft, and Mrs. Maxwell’s Sam Naraiswar. Related tidbit: during last month’s four-day heat wave, Con Ed’s customers used a terawatt hour of electricity—the same amount of electricity Vermont uses in two months. |
