| Here's one thing Ackman-Ziff president Simon Ziff didn't expect in this downturn—business to ramp up so fast. The firm now has its largest pipeline since '07, including over $500M of West Coast deals under application or negotiation. Its business today is split between old clients and a meaningful group of new clients, Simon says. When business was at its very worst, he notes his partners and advisors were convinced that when things turned around, they'd benefit disproportionately. The firm kept most of the team together and is now hiring again, growing its already large group of NY-based debt and equity pros. How does Simon do it?
