You can use the tenets of sustainability to add value at every level of your business, from internal operations to new construction, and property management practices to resident services, says The Related Cos.' VP of sustainability Charlotte Matthews, who will be speaking at Bisnow's first annual Sustainability Summit on Aug. 12. |
Related is undergoing a comprehensive review of all of its assets' operations, and has rolled out green operations across its entire portfolio, which includes affordable housing, mixed-use, luxury, and retail properties. Initiatives include green property management practices, energy retrofits, communicating sustainability to its tenants, and giving them the tools to manage energy use. âYou have to stay ahead of the curve and challenge the status quo,â she notes—for one, Related is the first developer to use CFLs for temporary lighting on its 1.2M SF construction project at 440 W. 42nd St. The 26-acre Hudson Yards will take sustainability strategies to the next level as Related applies a wide-reaching program of sustainability measures to the mixed-use neighborhood development, which will likely take 10 to 15 years to complete. |
