VOW TO REBUILD
November 15, 2012
There were no tuxedos, fancy dresses, or a sit-down service. Instead, New York Building Congress’ annual industry recognition dinner Tuesday was scaled down in wake of Hurricane Sandy’s devastation. “We’re here to recognize the MTA, Port Authority, city agencies, ConEd, National Grid, union members, and countless volunteers,” said president Dick Anderson (right, with NYBC chair John Dionisio of AECOM and George A. Fox Public Service Award honoree and former Lt. Gov. Richard Ravitch). John announced that NYBC and New York Building Foundation have seeded the Hurricane Sandy Recovery Fund with $100k; countless building industry firms had already pledged significant support to the fund, which now stands at $200k. |
“We have to face the reality that this is far more complicated than 9/11,” said Dragados USA’s Chris Ward, who chaired the event. (Above, we snapped him with Parsons Brinckerhoff CEO George Pierson and Tishman Construction Americas prez Peter Marchetto, who were both honored at the event.) Given that New York is surrounded by water, we have to redevelop ourselves, he urged. To donate to the recovery fund, click here. |
