WHERE'S DEBBIE?
May 17, 2010
We're ready to file a Missing Persons for Debbie Downer, who's been absent from all the big events recently-or at least dodgingBisnow's camera. Optimism and opportunity reigned during the cocktail hour at Thursday's New York Building Congress awards luncheon (Part I), where Atco Properties COO Peter DiCapua (with ConEdison Solutions' CEO Jorge Lopez and VP Michael Perna), told us that he planned to spend his weekend in Charlotte looking for investments to diversify Atco's retail, office, and condo portfolio at an 8.5% return. (Atco also recently made a purchase in Austin with a preferred return of 9%.) The trio also discussed solar power opportunities, which are more prevalent in NJ than NY because of the Garden State's renewable energy credits. |
Atco isn't the only one diversifying-FXFOWLE senior partner Guy Geier (second from left, with Goshow Architects' Nancy Aber Goshow and The Donaldson Org.'s Gerard Miller and Joseph Kiernan) tells us his firm is continuing to expand its reach with ongoing work in the Middle East, India, and China, as well as the Mid-Atlantic through its DC office. The firm is seeing a slight uptick in activity, he adds. Nancy just completed work on a 600-bed residence hall for Long Island's SUNY Stony Brook, LEED Gold anticipated. |
Obelisk Architectural Consultants president Brian Ahern (with VJ Associates' Clive Tysoe, Richard Santoro, and Ami Desai) couldn't have started his new firm during a more volatile time in the industry, but work has started picking up in the residential, healthcare, and educational sectors. One project he's working on is the continuous conversion of the former Jersey City Medical Center into The Beacon, a new Art Deco-inspired condominium/retail community at Montgomery Street and Mill Road. |
