Yesterday's Powerful Women!
April 7, 2010
We also stopped by AREW' s sold-out annual âPowerful Women In Real Estateâ lunch at Club 101, where we kept hearing about opportunities available despite the past year's tumultuous market. Rhodes Associates' Jane Lyons (second from left) and Caran Properties' Rebecca Mason (fourth from left) join the speakers: Capital One's Carmen Bowser, Standard & Poor's Kim Diamond, Dune Capital's Cia Buckley, Abyssinian Development Corp.'s Sheena Wright, Mall Properties' Andrea Olshan, and the New York Observer's Dana Rubenstein. |
An industry shut down gave ratings companies bandwidth needed to deal with image issues and regulators, Kim says. Cia notes that market panic has subsided, and she sees deal flow picking up dramatically. Harlem, which suffered vacancy and abandonment after the market crashed, has distress prospects and room for growth, Sheena adds. And fundamentals matter again, Andrea says; you don't have to kick out tenants to make money. |
AREW Charitable Fund also collected bagfuls of work-appropriate clothes for Bottomless Closet, a non-profit providing business attire, interview skill training, and ongoing career support for economically-disadvantaged women. They'll also be continually collecting $1 donations for new pantyhose (donate here).
