Arker Cos. is planning to build a 2,200-unit complex featuring 40K SF of public outdoor space in the Edgemere, Queens.

Affordable housing developer Arker Cos. joined with Northeast Brooklyn Housing Development Corp. to buy the former Peninsula Hospital site back in 2016 for $19M, DNAinfo reported at the time. The developer is planning to build 2,200 new units, including 1,900 that will be affordable and 270 that will be set aside for senior housing, New York YIMBY reports.

Arker always planned to build multifamily and commercial buildings at the site, but has to pass the city's Uniform Land Use Review Procedure rezoning process before it can move forward.

There will be more than 151K SF of retail space, 642 parking spaces and more than 64K SF of community facility space, according to YIMBY. The complex is expected to be complete by 2034, and Aufgang Architects is designing the project. The Peninsula Hospital stretches from Beach 50th Street to Beach 53rd Street between Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach Channel Drive.

The hospital there closed in 2012.
