New Ferry Service That Aims To Connect City's 'Spine' Will Open In June 2017
The city’s new five-borough ferry service will launch next June, according to deputy mayor Alicia Glen.
The city’s Economic Development Corp hasn’t announced who’ll be operating the service, which will feature routes to and from Rockaway Park, Long Island City, Astoria, Bay Ridge and Sunset Park.
Alicia said at an event Wednesday the ferry is part of a multi-pronged effort to better connect the city’s “spine,” along with the Brooklyn Queens Connector, DNAInfo reports.
Alicia says the areas served by the ferry are home to almost 600,000 residents and a variety of high-profile developments, so to “maximize the impact of this growth” the city is “investing in the infrastructure it takes to move people in and out of these neighborhoods.” [DNA]
