Transwestern Named Crain's Best Place To Work In NYC For Second Straight Year
Commercial real estate services firm Transwestern has made it back-to-back years as one of the most well-regarded employers in New York City.
Transwestern, with local offices at 600 Lexington Ave. in Midtown, took the top spot in Crain's New York Business' Best Places to Work rankings for the second year in a row, the first time any company has been awarded the top honor twice since Crain's began the list in 2008.
The Houston-based company's policy against commissions for brokers, its strong mentorship and its bonus structure, including a $5K award for ideas that improve the company's structure and efficiency, have combined to make Transwestern a collaborative and supportive environment, rather than a competitive one as so many brokerages have become, Crain's writes. Flexible hours and wellness perks such as on-site chair massages also were named by surveyed employees as reasons for Transwestern's success.
Three other well-known commercial real estate companies cracked Crain's top 100 — information company CompStak, Gilbane Construction and brokerage GFI Realty Services, which landed at 31st, 57th and 82nd, respectively. CompStak's allowance for unlimited remote work, tuition reimbursement and programs for diversifying its employees' skill sets were reasons for its placement, while similar initiatives produced similar results for Gilbane.
Of the 100 companies listed, only 10 employ more than 200 people in New York, illustrating how much more difficult it can be to make employees feel valued in massive companies. Transwestern has 35 New York employees, 10 more than the minimum number required for consideration on Crain's list. Gilbane had the fifth-most New York employees of any company on the list with 355, and the third-most revenue among respondents who disclosed that figure.
