Trump Warns NYC Not to Sever Business Ties
The list of businesses that have distanced themselves from Donald Trump in the wake of his disparaging remarks about Mexican immigrants is ever-growing, and the mogul wants to see to it that New York City doesn't follow suit. In a letter to New York Parks Commissioner Mitchell Silver, Trump, who is running for president as a GOP candidate, warns that "any attempt to terminate my business relationships with the city would be a clear and unequivocal violation of my First Amendment protection," the New York Daily News reported. Amid the recent firestorm over the mogul's comments, which included claiming that Mexican immigrants are "rapists," NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio said the city would review its contracts with Trump. But Trump, in classic Trump fashion, said in his letter to Mitchell that the city should thank him for his "amazing" work. Trump wrote to Mitchell, and not Mitchell's boss, de Blasio, because he was specifically referring to his recently opened Bronx golf course, Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point, the most expensive municipal golf course in the US. Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus recently held a long phone call with The Donald and told him to tone down his rhetoric regarding Mexican immigrants, according to the Washington Post. GOP bigs are terrified that Trump's comments could adversely impact the party's push to woo Hispanic voters, a key electoral bloc. However, in an interview with CNN Wednesday, Trump put a much different spin on his phoner with Priebus. "He did say, 'You know, you could keep it down a little bit; but you can't change your personality and I understand that.' It was really a nice call, a congratulatory call," Trump said. [NYDN]
