New York City Draws Record Number Of Tourists For Sixth Year In A Row
Mayor Bill de Blasio and NYC & Co announced New York City has broken tourism records for the sixth consecutive year. The city welcomed an estimated 58.3 million visitors in 2015, up 1.8 million from the previous year.
Also at an all-time high were some 12.3 million visitors who came from other parts of the globe, in addition to record hotel occupancy, with 33.5 million hotel room nights sold on top of 12.3 million business travelers who visited the city's five boroughs. This is also up more than double than 6 million who visited in 2014.
Despite strong numbers and the opening of such tourist attractions as the new Whitney Museum of American Art and the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration and the extension of the 7 subway line, NYC & Co CEO Fred Dixon said the city can't afford to rest on its laurels.
"We will all need to work even harder in 2016 to sustain our competitive edge,” Dixon said. [NYC]
