Concrete Company Taking New Space In Sunset Park

The Ferrara Brothers concrete plant is gearing up to leave its longtime home on the shores of the Gowanus Canal.

The concrete company is moving to a new space in Sunset Park thanks to building permits filed by the city’s Economic Development Corp., DNAinfo reports. The EDC tapped Ferrara Brothers to build its own $15M facility through an RFP aimed at revitalizing a property at 750 Third Ave.

The company is known for supplying concrete for such projects as the 9/11 Memorial in Lower Manhattan and the recently opened Second Avenue Subway. The property has a slice of shoreline along New York Harbor, enabling the concrete maker to accept raw materials by barge.

Construction on the new facility is expected to take upward of a year. Gowanus Green, a mixed-use development that has been in the works since 2008, will be able to proceed once Ferrara’s current plant moves.

Just this week, the city announced a new initiative to bring a three-building manufacturing complex to Sunset Park’s waterfront.
