Deal Struck for South Brooklyn Marine Terminal
A preliminary deal’s been struck between the mayor’s office and council member Carlos Menchaca to develop the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal near Industry City in Sunset Park. Under it, the Economic Development Corp can take over 72 acres to lease to a tenant that’ll turn it into a port, which could mean hundreds of good jobs, the Wall Street Journal reports. Menchaca, who reps Sunset Park, had opposed pushing the plan through without community oversight. He says he’s happy with the new plan’s 39-year lease and the establishment of a task force to work with the EDC to help keep the community involved in steering the project. [WSJ]
